Position Opening

Connecticut Farmland Trust (CFT)
is seeking a detail oriented, team player to manage all aspects of the organization’s accounting. S/he will work with the Executive Director, as well as the Development Manager. The position is 40 hours/week and located in Hartford, Connecticut.

Organization Overview
Connecticut Farmland Trust is a nationally accredited farmland conservation organization. CFT is the only land trust in Connecticut dedicated to the protection of family farms. Since its founding in 2002, the land trust has protected more than 3,000 acres of farmland, and has helped its partners protect 1,000 additional acres.

Principal Responsibilities
Inputs information into donor software (Donor Perfect).
Prepares electronic files from donor software for entry into general ledger.
Codes bills for payment by general ledger account and class type.
Processes deposits to bank accounts.
Prepares donation files from donor software and bills for payment to be sent to external bookkeeper each week.
Closes year end donations and financial statements.
Provides external bookkeeper all information needed to prepare complete and accurate records of the organization’s activity.
Oversees external bookkeeper activity and analyzes accounts as needed.
Prepares monthly financial statement from memorized templates in QuickBooks.
Prepares annual financial statement for external audit firm.
Works on Special Projects requiring accounting expertise as needed.
Assists with other office functions, as needed.

The applicant must possess a 4-year degree in accounting or 5 years of bookkeeping experience. A plus will be a candidate who has some external auditing experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong working knowledge of MS Word and Excel
Experience working with databases
Ability to work independently with little supervision
Ability to interpret financial statements
Ability to solve problems
Highly detail oriented and organized

Helpful Experience
Working knowledge of donor software
Non-profit organization experience
Working knowledge of QuickBooks

Salary and Benefits
The salary is $50,000 to $55,000 based on experience.
