Description
Manages production development and pricing projects, financial reporting and analysis of statutory and GAAP reserves for specific lines of business. Has responsibility for product pricing projects, financial modeling, and testing of various financial, administrative, illustration, and reserving systems. Manages cash flow testing and ALM work. Provides insight into what has caused results to be as they are and well thought out solutions to solve profitability challenges.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Manages product development and pricing projects.
a. Researches and recommends product development opportunities.
b. Creatively designs products in conjunction with other Company departments to meet Company goals.
c. Obtains proficiency in models used for pricing, such as MG-ALFA®.
d. Coordinates pricing effort with Marketing, Underwriting, and Investment Depts.
e. Develops appropriate assumptions for product pricing.
f. Ensures product pricing meets profitability targets.
g, Provides responses to state filing objections.
h. Directs efforts of others where appropriate.
2. Manages financial reporting and analysis for specific lines of business (LOB’s)
a. Assists Controller in preparation of financial reports, including timely
and accurate preparation of reserve and liability reports, RBC reports,
AM Best reports, AVR and IMR calculations as well as analysis and explanation of reserve changes.
b. Provides insight into profitability of LOB’s and provides recommended changes to product design, expense levels, etc. as appropriate. Considers both short and long term implications.
c. Signs off on actuarial balances for LOB’s.
d. Provides back up to Chief Actuary for monthly financial sign-off on all actuarial balances.

3. Responsible for the development of financial models.
a. Assess profitability of existing and new products.
b. Maintains familiarity with the latest techniques and tools for financial modeling.
c. Projection of statutory and GAAP financials to support operating plan and strategic outlooks.
d. Provides strategic and tactical recommendations to improve Company profitability, sales levels and overall success.
4. Risk Based Capital
a. Monitors surplus and RBC ratios. Identifies opportunities to improve positions.
5. Responsible for overseeing testing of various financial, administrative, illustration, and reserving systems.
a. Develops model for testing reserves, cash values, and dividends from various systems.
6. Assumes additional duties and projects as requested.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree and attained Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries (FSA)

Experience:
The successful candidate will be an FSA with several years of post-FSA work experience, primarily in life insurance and annuities product development, valuation and/or in force management. Supervisory experience a plus.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
The candidate should have strong verbal and written communication skills. Significant relevant product design and pricing experience are a must. Able to work well as part of a team. Strong analytical skills. Able to consider broader view of work, recognize short and long term implications, impact on other areas of the Company and the sales force, etc. The candidate should be able to provide business insight that helps the Company improve profitability and/or reduce or minimize risk. Proficiency in MG- ALFA® or other modeling software. Proficiency in Triton or other valuation software. Strong Microsoft Excel and Access skills.

Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises actuarial analyst where possible.
