Responsible for supervising a Welding Engineering group. The successful candidate will supervise a full spectrum of welding engineering services within Electric Boat. Primary areas of responsibility include:ã?Lead the department and participate in design:build teams to develop designs that are sound from a materials and weldability perspective, are cost:effective in terms of producibility and meets specification requirements. Provide oversight and coordination of drawing reviews and approvals. Review and interpret fabrication, welding, non:destructive testing, and consumable specifications, both military and commercial, as required. Provide general technical oversight, as required, of vendor welding activities. Ensure vendor welding and repair are in technical compliance under a structured evaluation process. Make certain that the dispositioning of welding related Vendor Procedure Approval RequestA?s (VPARA?s) and Vendor Information RequestA?s (VIRA?s) are evaluated rigorously for compliance and completed in a timely manner. Provide direct assistance to Vendors in the matters of welding procedure qualification in cooperation with Purchasing, Supplier Quality, and Engineering.ã?Provide technical solutions, guidance and expertise on complex welding and brazing related issues to design, construction, and overhaul activities taking place at various Electric Boat locations. Develop and maintain company standards, procedures and best practices in the areas of welding both nuclear and non:nuclear. Review and disposition Engineering Reports, Deficiency Forms/Reports, Task Group Instructions, DRA?s post weld stress relief, Trade Unsats and Welding Engineering Instructions related to welding.ã?Provide Welding Engineering services in the area of investigative and failure analysis of welds using various methods. This may include application of standard nondestructive and destructive testing techniques, development and application of nonstandard destructive testing approaches, and critical interpretations of Quantitative Abrasive Test (QAT) results.ã?Support to Operations and shipyard production issues as necessary.Perform special testing as required for M and PE, CRAD, and other NAVSEA funded projects.ã?Identify resources, plan and assign work, track progress and ensure timely completion of work and projects within budgeted hours.ã?Provide training and develop direct report employees to meet department short and long term objectives.ã?Interface with EB Engineering, Operations and other departments as well as SUPSHIP Groton, NRRO, NR, and NAVSEA as required. Required:ã?Engineering Bachelor of Science degree in Welding, Mechanical, Metallurgical, Materials or other engineering discipline. A minimum of four yearA?s experience as a welding engineer or within another engineering disciplineFour yearA?s experience as a shipyard welding engineer or other engineering discipline.
