Assumes overall operational management and responsibility for an operational shift. Supervises and directs personnel in the conduct of required work activities. Operates the units safely, efficiently and in a cost:effective manner and complies with all federal and state regulations. Takes direct action to correct abnormal situations and in the event of an emergency, maintains conditions to preserve plant integrity and provide for personnel safety.
:Assumes operational responsibility and management of operational shift.
:Assumes responsibility for operational shift's regulatory compliance.
:Operates the plant safely, efficiently, cost effectively within environmental compliance, and manufacturer's limits.
:Monitors operating conditions, diagnoses problem areas and initiates corrective action where necessary. Develops emergency procedures to correct abnormal conditions.
:Actively participates in performance management activities for staff assigned, as well as promotion, discipline and training of employees.
:Responsible for initiating notifications which describe equipment failures and observances and document such observances via the SAP Notification System : communicates as required with Maintenance, Engineering and Environmental Coordinator.
:Ensures staff assigned to shift are provided with the appropriate knowledge, and understanding of safety policies and procedures and plant operational requirements. Initiates and ensures lock out/tag out procedures are followed and ensures all staff awareness of procedure by training if required and practice.
:Responsible for following and implementing NRG safety and environmental policy.
:Assists in completion of injury/illness reports and adheres to plant policy guidelines.
:Provides appropriate documentation and communicates with the Operations Manager regarding personnel issues, deficiencies, and suggestions for efficient plant operations.
:Embraces, encourages and supports the team based organization concept.
:Adopts a proactive style for resolving issues, implementing new practices.
:Stay abreast of market conditions and rules.
:Maintain timely and accurate communication with NRG Commercial Operations.
:Ensures compliance with established union contract.
:Ensures effective communication, turnover and workflow between shifts.
Minimum Requirements:
:Must have a Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Business or a related discipline COMBINED with 6 years of operations experience at a utility level power plant.
:In lieu of degree, must have a High School Diploma COMBINED with 10 years ofoperations experience at utility level power plant.
Preferred Qualifications:
:Experience leading/supervising power plant employees, including barganing unit employees
:Experience with cycle chemistry and wastewater treatment systems
